The Rhythm Cats
Based in the beautiful Napa Valley, The Rhythm Cats perform music from the roots of rock and roll. The band consists of Alan K. Parks on bass fiddle, Jim Adamson on acoustic guitar, and Mark Larson on electric guitar. That's right- no drums! The members of the Rhythm Cats all sing, featuring three part harmony on many songs.
Their repertoire consists mainly of songs from the years preceding and including the advent of rock and roll. Songs such as Sweet Georgia Brown and All Of Me are played with the same drive and swing as the songs from the rockabilly pioneers Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. Songs from later years are certainly not neglected; music from the 1960s and 70s and originals show up as well, receiving the Rhythm Cats treatment of humor and playfulness.
A Rhythm Cats show is an experience to be enjoyed on many levels. The music is energetic, and the banter between songs is filled with humor. A person can get as much pleasure by dancing to the rockin' rhythm or be equally entertained by just sitting and watching. The Rhythm Cats are always on stage to have a good time and to share their fun with the audience.
Best friends since they were in seventh grade, Alan and Jim formed the Rhythm Cats in 1995 and guitarist Mark Larson joined the band in 2002. The chemistry between the three members is readily apparent when they take the stage. Goofy choreography, good natured ribbing and a willingness to involve the audience in the show makes for an extremely entertaining experience.
The Rhythm Cats have performed at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the world's largest traditional jazz festival. They have also played at the Napa Town and Country Fair for more than twenty years running as well as various festivals and private events throughout the western United States. They have been featured as an opening act for Tower Of Power, America and Paul Revere and the Raiders. You can find them most Thursday nights at their residence gig, Trio Restaurant in downtown Guerneville, CA.
Their latest album, simply titled “Trio” is available directly from the band. You can contact them on FaceBook and Twitter or on their website, TheRhythmCats.net.
